[/center]
The Animals Fae Naboombu were established late 1987, around the time most clubs were trying to have the most outrageous or longest names e.g.: Can’t Decide on a Name S.C., Homicidal Axe Wielding Maniacs etc. in comparison to Marauders, Globetrotters, Renegade Soul~diers and Vagabonds which was the norm at that time for the more established clubs.
When the club was initially formed, I was a member of the Marauders but being local, I decided to pay them a visit. Members included Marty (Honorary Pres) Cha, Sheena, Malice, Jim McSkimming and Val, all of whom had a strong role in the club. Even Scally (Marauders/Nobody’s Heroes) was a Nomad Animal at one time.
At the time I was asked if I was interested in joining, however, as I was currently in an established club, I didn’t want to take the chance of joining a brand new club that might not last that long……..how wrong was I??!!. The clubs first outing was the Convicts rally in Larne 88 followed by the first national rally of the year in Great Yarmouth, which had a strong turnout from the Animals.
After the 88 rally season I took a break from the scooter scene for two years, during which time the Animals saw a drop in membership. After getting myself a new scoot, I decided to drop in on the Club and see what was happening. I was interested in doing the rallies again but, at that time, didn’t really want to get involved in the club side of things.
At the time the club was ran, mainly, by Marty, Andy, Jim Mc and Davie Burgess who were all still very active. In May 1991 I went to the Heather Rally ran by Dalkeith & District as a solo (except Kev Walsh guiding me to the site on a Vespa!). By the time Morecambe came around, I was becoming more involved, even doing Exmouth via France and coincidentally meeting Marty and Andy who came off en route with his newly painted, never been shown, custom paint job! Bummer!
By 1992 the clubs membership was healthily increasing allowing us to attend most Northern Nationals and Scottish Club Rallies with the odd Southern run thrown in. Our proudest moment of ’92 was when we won our first trophy at St. Andrews for Best Turned Out, a sign the Animals Fae Naboombu had arrived!!
The clubs membership, at this point, was a mix of original members and their friends (including the Renfrew mob!). They left around 95, only to be replaced by D.B. and Polo etc, who introduced Horny to the club. Horny had a very strong influence in the running of things. With his ability to motivate everyone the club won the NSRA Scottish club of the year, coming second in Britain on points to the Monsters. He also had a big role organising our anniversary rally and also the introduction of the controversial patch change! The new patch was a blown up version of the small embroidered patch, complete with rockers for above and below. It was an idea originally patented by bikers, and while I liked it a number of the original members stuck with the old one, saying the new one was far too biker looking for their taste!

The idea behind it was to have a patch that would stand out from the normal screen printed cloth patches, giving us something a bit more original. The top rocker would consist of Renfrewshire/Glasgow/Lanarkshire and the bottom rocker Scotland, thus showing our patriotism and also showing how far we had travelled to get to a rally! We ran around with those patches till the start of 2001 when the local bike gangs took offence to it. They (politely) explained that the rockers made us a gang and we had encroached on their territory, which was certainly never our intention. After an unsuccessful attempt at compromise it was decided to remove the rockers rather than risk further conflict with the bikers. Let’s face it, most of us now have families to consider, and the days of the Mods and Rockers are best left consigned to the history books! It was small consolation to discover we weren’t the only club to have problems; the Scottish branch of the Hardly Rideables had the same thing with their ‘cut it down, paint it black’ slogan. The decision was made to change or they would have disbanded the club.
The Animals have had a lot of coverage lately with the exploits of Bert and Gunny and now, thanks to Graeme, the Animals Fae Naboombu have an excellent website, detailing (with pic’s!) all our adventures to various rallies, a chat room, message board which is frequented by many clubs, and many other features. The custom scooters of Barry (Slapstick Stars) and Stevie (Freedom) have been feature scooters in Scootering magazine and two successful trips recently to Holland have established us as one of (if not) the best rally club in Scotland in our 15th anniversary year in 2002.

Jim Gilmour (Former President of Animals Fae Naboombu Scooter Club)
This is my account of things and hopefully some parts may be filled or another member may add their part to this page in our history.
here is another short input into the famous animals fae naboombu s.c since 2002 when jim last done this excellent write up the scootering scene in general had taken a demise in members attending meetings / rallys throughout the country people were either commited to other things or had fell away from it due to one thing or another well if your reading this and saying duc yes i know where hes coming from because you yourself have just got back into it in the last few years you will know what i mean.
Even our club was affected with a loss of members but we still had that hardcore elliment who were dedicated scooterists no matter what we would carry the flag through these barren couple of years .
I myself emigrated to australia in 2003/04 and to leave my friends in the scootering scene was a wrench but not as much as having to leave the club i had grown to love and was so proud to be a part of THE ANIMALS.
life in oz was great and i managed to pick up a rally 200 to ride in the sun , got into our local northern soul scene in perth which introduced me to a lot of ex pats into into the scene we would meet up for runs on a saturday i was liking oz but still kept in touch with the animals who bye this time were low in membership .
oz came to an abrupt end and i found myself back home in renfrew and back among THE ANIMALS , GOD I MISSED IT BUT WAS JUST TO PROUD TO ADMIT IT .
2004/05 so our club go from strength to strength members were joining thick and fast as we regained our respect as one if not THE best club in scotland . We were attending rallies all over britain and the continant winning best turned out , furthest travelled , etc etc it was a great feeling again .
We were getting the respect of everyone at home and abroad for attending rallies and dances with large numbers .
by now we were into 50 plus members on scooters much to the surprise of fellow scottish clubs who were half this amount or less
one of our members craig ballantyne done a remarkable trip on his px200 from aberdeen in the very north of scotland to gibralta in southern spain and back again this earned him and our club a few page write up in scootering magazine which he thoroughly deserved well done mate.
2007,2008
SO THE ANIMALS WERE BACK in 2007 we decided to put on a rally on the isle of bute ( rothesay) this was a lot of hard work and involved the whole club with most members going out of their way to help in one way or another we worked our arses off and due to grant, tam, gerry, davie all club members who supplied quality dj sounds the whole weekend and everyone else pulling off all the stops we produced one of the best rallys i have attended in 26 years of scootering . The feedback from people summed it all up in their words not mine, MAGIC, THE BEST, BACK TO THE EIGHTIES,THE BEST WEEKEND OF MY LIFE . TO NAME BUT A FEW.
the next year we did it all again more and more scooterists were coming from england, scotland , wales, ireland, belgium. this time the rally had taken its toll on us all and we decided to not put it on again till our 25th anniversary . What an impact this had everyone was pleading and asking for us to do it again so due to a poor scottish calender for rallys to attend in scotland we voted to do it all again in 2009 july 3rd-5th god help us .
2008
As mentioned before the club had good publicity with both mine and garrys t5,s making it onto the front cover of scootering magazine although garry had sold it to barry who took all the plaudits and was happy to have his pic in the mag when it really should have been garry taking the honour but as fate would have it he succeeded with his next project.
this year and early into 2009 seen another 6 animals custom scooters adorne the pages of scootering mag starting with my radical chopped t5 (fat bastard) then garrys lammy gp200 ( nightmare) next was wrighties p2 street racer ( nuttin fancy) then came fairlies t5 (pigs will fly) followed by bairdies p2 scary stuff and also his t5 sin city . people were asking if our club had shares in the mag my lips are sealed .
2009 will be a sad year for the club as andy and niki are taking the same step i did and emigrating to oz we wish them the best of luck in their new venture down under. HERE IS MY CONTRIBUTION IM SORRY FOR THE LACK OF GRAMMER AND PUNCTUATION BUT SCHOOL WAS NEVER MY STRONG POINT
